A global experiential campaign to launch Season 1 of the animated Netflix series Arcane. Set in the League of Legends universe the story is based in Piltover “the city of progress” and the underground city of Zaun following iconic LOL champions and the creation of hextech.
The campaign launched with a takeover teaser film on the Burj Khalifa the world’s tallest buillding. Experiential activations were then unveiled in a phased approach with flagship stores appearing in six global cities called Hextech Expos. In phase one hoardings went up to spark interest and included AR components linking to the Hex crystal technology to be showcased. Phase two revealed the store fronts with interactive window displays, augmented reality and a countdown to the grand opening. The destruction occurred in the final phase before the store launch – the Hextech was stolen and clue’s were left by the culprit. This mirrored the release of the series narrative, different styles applied and progressed to an all-out finale at the Los Angeles expo with Jinx revealed as causing the destruction and mayhem.
Joining the team at the early stage, work involved progressing the creative and visual language. Illustrating patterns for store fascia graphics and displays, extending the colour palette and print testing – the look and feel was art deco and the inspiration and detailing was taken from the scenes in Piltover. Visualising hoarding and store fronts for presentations then progressed to asset creation and producing a toolkit handbook. Taking the creative concept for the Piltover skyline poster this was illustrated as a vector graphic to be produced on the large shop front light boxes and as the OOH billboard in LA. Next stage; which was time critical for launch was the technical artworking for each individual store front, comprising of items such as display windows, interactive displays, fascias, banners, vinyls and drapes. The work also spanned into artworking OOH, posters, leaflets and clothing to name a few for the campaign delivery.
